What Got You Here Won't Get You There

Change is Necessary. How Will You Do It?

Whether you are the owner of the business or someone who wants to step into a leadership position, the indisputable fact is that YOU will need to change.

You need to change the way you think

…the way you act

…the way you communicate.

Disagree?

Think back to when you were young, just graduating college or moving out. You needed to think and act differently, did you not?

Mom and dad were no longer paying the bills. Your life went from going to class, studying, partying, going to the gym, partying, and then partying some more. Now, you must land a job, go to work and pay the bills.

This scary and exciting time requires a big change in the way you think, how you act, and what you do in your everyday life. It's a complete redirection for you, and you're full of energy and anticipation.

Fast forward to promotions at work, marriage/kids/family.

Each of these stages requires a substantial change in the way you think, how you act, and what you do in your everyday life. It happens naturally. Priorities shift, and you marvel in the magic of the moments. However, time soon becomes a commodity you burn through without even noticing.

Once we reach a certain age or point in our lives, we can become “set in our ways”. We can forget that change is a constant in our lives, and that’s a good thing.

We’re on autopilot, too busy focusing on just getting through the days to run the business or pay the bills, raise the kids, and take care of the darn leaky roof. Maybe we forget to invest in ourselves, or if we do it’s to a lesser degree, when in fact, now is the time to get the fly wheel going!

Your experience and wisdom, with a dose of education, leadership development, executive coaching, new perspectives, peer groups, whatever you choose can create a hocky-stick effect to take you to the next level. Don't ignore it!

You know your business as it is today. You know the job you’re in today. You’ve been successful. The question is, what’s next, and how do you maximize your time, talent, and resources.

Some questions to ask yourself:

  1. Am I content with my work, or do I want to grow?
It’s ok to say you’re content!
  2. If I want something more/different, what needs to change in my business or career to satisfy that need?
These are things you haven’t said out loud, but you know it in your gut.
  3. What fundamental changes do I need to make in my thinking or actions to make this change happen?
Be honest with yourself. Consult with a trusted, yet objective person – maybe a coach (wink, wink).
  4. What resources do I need to make the change?
Personal growth, funding, more staff, different staff, systems, processes, tech, a coach (wink, wink).

These are not easy questions, but nothing in life worth doing is easy. You’ve made it this far. You’re successful. To get to the next level, you will need to change. The question, what does that look like for you.

I thrive on working with business owners and leaders who want to take their business or career to the next level. If you'd like to have a conversation about where you stand and how you can accelerate your growth, schedule a 20-minute call with me. No pressure. No commitment. I want to hear your story and offer some useful perspective.
